UNSOLICITED ART (3): MITSUHIRO OKAMOTO

Defacing classical art has long been a staple of "modern" art, which obviously has a strong anti-Western animus, which some thinkers have linked to the influence of certain groups and ethnicities with a long-standing resentment against Europeans and their civilization. This is not the case here, however, as Japanese artists tend to view the Western classical artistic tradition in positive terms, although unfortunately they also view the anti-classical modern artistic "tradition" in positive terms as well, and therefore often blindly mimic it, as in this jokey sculptural piece by the Japanese artist Mitsuhiro Okamoto, which found its way into my in-box.
